25K CableMod “12VHWPR” angled adapters officially recalled after causing $74K in property damages – VideoCardz.com

February 8, 2024

CableMod is recalling 25,300 small adapters that cost $74K. A mandatory recall for all CableMod adapters on all models has been announced. The Consumer Product Safety Commission reveals the details of this recall. CableMod is offering a full refund for the cost of the adapter, including shipping, or a $60 store credit for non-custom items at an authorized CableMod store. The recall applies to purchases made between February and December 2023, both directly from the store and through Amazon.

CableMod has received 272 reports of adapters becoming loose, overheating, and melting into GPUs, causing at least $74,500 worth of product damage in the United States. The Consumer Product Safety Commission has recorded 272 incidents involving adapters, totaling over $74K in costs. CableMod has been using social media and forums to provide quick updates for damaged video cards. It is unfortunate for the company that most of these cards were expensive RTX 4090 GPUs. It is recommended to always use the 12VHPWR cables supplied by the power company if possible. If not, users should use NVIDIA’s approved adapters supplied with each RTX 40 card or inquire with the power supply manufacturer if they have such an adapter. Additionally, users should ensure that the cables are fully inserted. Source: CPSC
