Lately, there are roughly 360 meteorite samples discovered on Earth which have been recognized as originating as Mars rocks. About 302 are labeled as shergottite, a kind of metal-rich Mars rock that shaped right through volcanic process. However the paradox that has confused scientists is that in spite of Mars’ closely cratered floor, many shergottite meteorites seem not up to 200 million years outdated.
For the reason that a more youthful floor, formed via volcanic process, would erase many of those craters, the ejected Mars rocks will have to even be historic. This downside is referred to as the Shergottite age paradox. To resolve the age of shergottite, scientists use a courting method known as argon-argon courting, which is dependent upon the decay of radioactive potassium into argon.
