IT IS FITTING that Manmohan Singh, who unshackled Indian business and business as the rustic’s finance minister in 1991, was once the son of an importer. His father’s company in Peshawar introduced dry fruit and spices to India from Afghanistan. As a schoolboy, Mr Singh would fill his wallet with almonds and raisins that his classmates attempted to scouse borrow. Even from an early age he liked the end result of world business.
