The Salt Lake City Stars, the Utah Jazz’s G League affiliate, will name Steve Wojciechowski as their new head coach, sources told ESPN on Friday. Wojciechowski has been eager to make the leap into professional coaching since departing from Marquette in 2021, and now he lands with a franchise with young players and three first-round picks in the upcoming 2023 NBA draft.

Wojciechowski has spent time around the Jazz organization over the past two years, particularly during the 2021-22 season because of his relationship with former Jazz coach Quin Snyder. During the past season, Wojciechowski attended some Jazz practices and built a relationship with current Jazz coach, Will Hardy.

Wojciechowski, along with several other college coaches, including Quin Snyder, has made the transition to NBA coaching through the G League, where teams prioritize teaching and player development over wins and losses.

During his time as head coach at Marquette, Wojciechowski led the team to a 128-95 (.574) record, two NCAA tournament appearances, and one NIT appearance. After leaving Marquette, he served as an assistant coach for USA Basketball’s 2022 AmeriCup team.

Wojciechowski is a former Duke player where he was an All-American and national defensive player of the year before spending 15 seasons as an assistant coach under Hall of Fame coach Mike Krzyzewski.
