Hollywood Directors Reach Deal With Studios as Writers’ Strike Continues
June 4, 2023

The Directors Guild of America (D.G.A.) has reached a three-year tentative agreement with Hollywood studios, according to an announcement made early on Sunday, May 6. The agreement is expected to ensure peace with one of the major guilds as writers’ strike enters its sixth week, thereby preventing three major unions from striking simultaneously. The deal encompasses critical gains such as improvements to streaming residuals and wages, as well as boundaries around artificial intelligence. The Directors Guild of America views the deal as a significant improvement for guild members, including directors, unit production managers, associate directors, stage managers and assistant directors. The entertainment industry is keen on learning how the directors’ deal with affect the ongoing Writer’s Guild of America strike. Over 11,000 writers went on strike in early May, leading to a halt in Hollywood productions. The Writers’ Guild of America union leaders are unsure if a deal with the directors will affect their solidarity with other unions.
