The Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing is a unique and somewhat forgotten car. It’s the last of the old school super sedans, maintaining its powerful and fierce character. Like the regular CT5, the Blackwing is getting a 2025 update to make it even more distinctive. This investment in niche products by GM is a promising move. If you’re not familiar with these models, the regular CT5-V is a turbocharged V6 sports sedan with all-wheel-drive, while the Blackwing features a 668-horsepower supercharged V8 engine. For 2025, both models are evolving in significant ways.
The most noticeable change is the unique front fascia, distinguishing the sleek CT5-V Blackwing from the regular CT5-V. A distinctive feature is the “running mascara” design that extends from the headlights to the lower grille. Additionally, the grilles are larger in the 2025 version, further setting the Blackwing apart from the V model. In a promotional photo, the standard CT5-V is positioned further from the camera, while the Blackwing is closer, highlighting their differences.
For those interested in color options, Cadillac offers a new green called Typhoon Metallic, along with other bold choices like Cyber Yellow Tintcoat, Coastal Blue Metallic, and Radiant Red Tintcoat. There’s also Drift Metallic, a blue silver color reminiscent of BMW’s Bluewater Metallic.
Apart from the cosmetic enhancements, the 2025 Cadillac CT5-V and CT5-V Blackwing feature significant interior upgrades, including the adoption of the 33-inch LED display from the regular CT5. While the backlit logo on the screen may be questionable, the overall interior looks impressive. It remains to be seen how well the technology will age, but it’s a definite improvement from the previous setup.
Cadillac didn’t need to change the CT5-V Blackwing, as it proudly holds the title of the last V8 sports sedan on the market. The brand reveals that more than 50 percent of buyers opt for a manual transmission, underscoring the allure of this model. With the prospect of new sedans like this becoming increasingly uncertain, there’s a strong sense of appreciation for the CT5-V Blackwing while it’s still available.
It’s hoped that the CT4-V Blackwing will continue to offer similar features. Cadillac’s shift to all-electric vehicles by 2030 means that sport sedans will likely disappear. Regardless of the future of the CT5-V Blackwing, it’s important to celebrate these sedans while they’re still part of the automotive landscape.
