January 27, 2024

It has been six years since the release of the original Nintendo Switch, which means its hardware is now outdated, leading to speculation about a potential updated version this year. Bloomberg suggests that the new console could hit the market during the holiday season. Omdia analyst Hiroshi Hayase stated that the upcoming console will feature an 8-inch LCD display, following the previous release of the Switch OLED in 2021, which had a 7-inch OLED display. There are reports hinting at a possible announcement in March and a pre-order availability in late August or early September. In addition, Sharp Corp, a company which has collaborated with Nintendo as a Switch assembler, has mentioned its involvement in the production of the upcoming console and the supply of LCD screens. This information dates back to last year, indicating that the product was in the research and development phase at that time. These developments suggest that the release of the Switch 2 might be on the horizon and potentially take place in 2024, considering its R&D status last year, and indications of an LCD panel. Nevertheless, the rumored Switch 2 may not offer the kind of exciting graphical upgrade that fans were hoping for. RedGamingTech on YouTube has shared a video with details on the rumors, suggesting that the Switch 2 could feature an eight-core Cortex-A78AE processor, 10 multiprocessors, 8GB memory, and 64GB eMMC storage, combined with an LCD screen instead of OLED, making the specifics a bit challenging to comprehend.
