X has announced its intention to recruit 100 full-time workers for a new trust and safety office in Austin, Texas. Bloomberg reported this development on Saturday. This move comes as X faces an upcoming hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee, scheduled for January 31st, regarding its approach to moderating child sexual exploitation (CSE). The company’s CEO Linda Yaccarino is set to testify. The new team will primarily focus on addressing CSE, marking the first dedicated trust and safety team since Elon Musk restructured the platform formerly known as Twitter. X recently updated its blog post about CSE moderation to reflect the establishment of this new office. However, details about the team’s specific responsibilities and the office’s opening date have not been disclosed. According to Joe Benarroch, X’s head of business operations, the team will also support other moderation efforts, including the enforcement of policies against hate speech. A job posting for a content moderation position at X in Austin suggests that moderators will be tasked with addressing issues such as “spam and fraud” and providing customer support.
