American Airlines' Taylor Swift “1989” Super Bowl Flight

American Airlines' Taylor Swift “1989” Super Bowl Flight
January 29, 2024

The Super Bowl is scheduled for February 11, 2024, in Las Vegas, Nevada. The teams competing will be the Kansas City Chiefs versus either the San Francisco 49ers or Detroit Lions. Airlines are adding extra flights to Las Vegas around the Super Bowl, particularly from the cities where the teams are based, to accommodate fans who wish to attend the game in person. American Airlines is getting creative with its flight numbers to and from Kansas City.

American will be running direct flights from Kansas City to Las Vegas with the flight number AA1989, in homage to Taylor Swift and her “1989” album. After the Super Bowl, the flight from Las Vegas to Kansas City will be labeled AA87, in honor of her beau, Travis Kelce, whose jersey number is 87. This playful gesture acknowledges the support of Taylor Swift and her influence on the Kansas City Chiefs.

This fun approach to flight numbering is not new; I’ve previously discussed how airlines incorporate creativity into flight numbers, such as American’s flights AA777 to Las Vegas, AA1492 to Columbus, and AA1776 to Philadelphia.

On a related note, Taylor Swift will be performing a concert in Tokyo at 6PM on Saturday, February 10, 2024, and plans to attend the Super Bowl, which commences at 3:30PM on Sunday, February 11, 2024. Given the 17-hour time difference between Tokyo and Las Vegas, she can easily make it to the event without any issues using her private jet, thanks to the International Date Line. In fact, she could even arrive in Las Vegas on Saturday night, well ahead of the Super Bowl. Time travel at its finest!

In conclusion, American Airlines is bringing some fun to its Super Bowl flights with creative flight numbers. What are your thoughts on American’s Super Bowl flight numbers?
