Hossein Salami, the chief of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards, stated on Wednesday that Iran is prepared to respond to any threat from the United States. He emphasized that no threat will go unanswered, following the killing of American servicemen by militants aligned with Tehran. This statement comes as the U.S. considers its response to the recent events.”We hear threats from American officials, and we want to convey that they have already tested us. We are familiar with each other, and no threat will be ignored,” Salami declared, as reported by the semi-official Tasnim news agency. In January 2020, the Revolutionary Guards targeted the Ain al-Asad U.S. base in Iraq in retaliation for a U.S. drone strike in Baghdad that resulted in the death of Qassem Soleimani, the commander of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards’ elite Quds Force. On Wednesday, Iran’s envoy to the United Nations, Amir Saeid Iravani, also issued a warning, stating that Tehran will respond decisively to any attack on its territory, its interests, or Iranian nationals outside its borders. These statements from Iranian officials come after United States President Joe Biden announced that he has made a decision regarding how to address a drone attack by Iran-aligned Iraqi groups that led to the deaths of U.S. service members in Jordan. However, he did not provide further details. On several occasions, Iranian Revolutionary Guards have been killed in Israeli strikes in Syria. Most recently, five members died on Jan. 20 and another two on Dec. 25. Additionally, on Monday, an Israeli strike reportedly hit an “Iranian military advisory center” in Syria, resulting in two casualties. Iran’s envoy to Syria, however, denied the details about the target and noted that the casualties were not Iranian.Meanwhile, on Jan. 15, Iran attacked what it referred to as an Israeli “spy headquarters” in Iraq’s semi-autonomous Kurdistan region.(Reporting by Dubai Newsroom; Editing by Tom Hogue and Andrew Cawthorne)
