# How a Photographer Captured an Incredible Green Flash Around Venus

Swedish photographer Peter Rosén was able to capture a rare and stunning green flash around Venus in the night sky over Stockholm. Using a Canon EOS 5D Mark IV DSLR and a Tamron 150-600mm f/5-6.3 Di VC USD G2 telephoto lens, Rosén captured the colorful green flash as Venus rose above the city’s skyline. The sequence comprises 11 frames, showing the green flash, which lasted just a second or two.

Even though it is a rare occurrence, this was not the first time Rosén had witnessed a green flash around a planet. In 2018, he filmed a similar event on Mars. Rosén’s dedication to capturing these phenomena is evident in his ability to photograph under challenging conditions, such as when planets are at very low altitudes and there is strong atmospheric turbulence.

Rosén’s interest in the night sky began at a young age, and his passion for space has been a lifelong pursuit. He initially started taking pictures of the Sun, Moon, and planets through a telescope and has since evolved into a versatile photographer and digital artist. His work has been featured on various astronomy websites, and he has collaborated with scientists and professional astronomers on numerous projects.

Rosén’s love for space is evident in the diverse range of projects he has undertaken, from creating animated Valentine’s Day cards using space images to contributing to Pro-Amateur collaborations with NASA. His work has even been featured as part of NASA’s Astronomy Picture of the Day. To see more of Rosén’s work, visit his Instagram page.
