According to the report, former Tesla director Larry Ellison advised Musk to take a break and visit Hawaii to “dry out” from various substances, including LSD, cocaine, ecstasy, and ketamine. This offer was made at a time when Musk’s friends were also encouraging him to consider rehab. The Wall Street Journal has disclosed that Elon Musk’s drug use raised concerns among his business associates and the board members of his companies, to such an extent that they recommended him to seek rehab or take a break from work to “dry out” from different substances, including LSD, cocaine, ecstasy, and ketamine. The report mentioned that Larry Ellison, a close friend of Musk’s and former Tesla director who is also the co-founder of Oracle, advised Musk to visit Hawaii in the winter of 2022 in order to “relax from work and dry out from the drugs.” This recommendation came as Musk’s friends and associates were becoming increasingly concerned about the extent of his drug use. The offer from Ellison was made in response to growing worries among Musk’s friends and associates regarding the escalation of Musk’s drug use. The Wall Street Journal reported that during a party in the Hollywood Hills, Musk was observed drinking ecstasy in “liquid form” from a water bottle, after having his security clear the floor for privacy. The report continued to indicate that Musk’s extensive drug use has created a culture of peer pressure among his friends and board members, urging them to use drugs alongside him in order to maintain their social status as his close associates.Musk, Ellison, and their attorneys, Alex Spiro and Christopher Muzzi, did not immediately respond to requests for comment from Business Insider. Elon Musk has reportedly experimented with various drugs, including psychedelics like ketamine, LSD, cocaine, ecstasy, and magic mushrooms. Despite stating his preference for not engaging in illegal drugs, Musk’s drug use has brought attention to him and his companies. For example, SpaceX was required by NASA to assure compliance with federal guidelines on drug use in the workplace after Musk smoked marijuana during an episode of a Joe Rogan podcast. The company allocated $5 million in taxpayer funds for the proper training of its employees on these regulations, as reported by The Wall Street Journal. Musk has also publicly stated that he has a prescription for ketamine, a drug which recent research suggests can be used in treating depression. Experts have pointed out that the use of the hard drugs reportedly used by Musk presents several health risks, particularly given his age as a 52-year-old. These risks include irregular heartbeat, incontinence, and psychosis if the user has bipolar disorder, which Musk has previously suggested to his Twitter followers in 2017.
