Reports indicate that Microsoft is thinking about extending the Gears of War franchise to the PlayStation platform. Jeff Grubb from Giant Bomb clarified recent claims about Microsoft working on bringing Xbox-only games to other platforms. It was reported that games such as Starfield and Indiana Jones, alongside previously rumored Hi-Fi Rush and Sea of Thieves, might be released for the PS5. Grubb mentioned on Monday, “It doesn’t mean it will happen, but it’s a discussion – with Gears of War. There is a chance that an official announcement will be made in February, explaining the changes in more detail.” 
According to Microsoft, Gears of War has sold more than 22 million units and generated over $1 billion in revenue since the company acquired the license from Epic Games in 2014. Titles such as Gears of War 4 and Gears 5, developed by The Coalition, as well as the updated version of Gears Tactics known as Gears of War : Ultimate Edition, have been successful. The Coalition announced in May 2021 its plans to transition to next-generation development using Unreal Engine 5, but stated that it was not yet ready to unveil a new game in the near future.Grubb previously mentioned that The Coalition had shifted focus to the next installment in the Gears of War series after two other games in development at the studio were canceled. Gears of War creator Cliff Bleszinski indicated that it would be wise for Microsoft to engage him as a consultant for the franchise. Netflix also revealed in November 2022 its intentions to launch numerous Gears of War projects, including a movie featuring adult characters.
