Recently, American rappers Snoop Dogg and Master P have filed a lawsuit against retail giant Walmart and a food production company for allegedly undermining their cereal brand. The legal action claims that Walmart and Post Consumer Brands concealed boxes of Snoop Cereal and falsely reported it as unavailable. According to attorney Benjamin Crump, this action disregards a black-owned business. Both companies cited low sales as a contributing factor. Walmart stated its track record of supporting entrepreneurs and recognized the various factors that can affect product sales. Post similarly expressed disappointment with the consumer demand for the product. Snoop Dogg and Master P established their food company, Broadus Foods, in 2022. The company manufactures breakfast cereals, pancake mix, and maple syrup, among other products. As per the complaint cited by US media, Post allegedly aimed to stifle Broadus Foods’ market presence after the rappers declined to sell their startup to the manufacturer. However, they did agree to a partnership, under which Post would manufacture and distribute the products to major retailers. The lawsuit contends that Walmart and Post Consumer Brands allegedly ensured that Snoop Cereal would not be accessible to consumers or that Broadus Foods would suffer substantial costs, eradicating any potential profit. It also claims that Post effectively collaborated with Walmart to prevent Snoop Cereal boxes from reaching store shelves. A video by civil rights lawyer Benjamin Crump was posted online, alleging that Walmart concealed the cereal in the storeroom and did not display it on the aisles. The video also shows unidentified Walmart employees in multiple stores unable to locate the cereal in the Walmart system, only to discover unopened Snoop Cereal shipments in the storeroom. Post Consumer Brands stated that it had been eager to collaborate with Broadus Foods and made significant investments in the business. Walmart mentioned that it would respond appropriately once it had reviewed the full complaint. Image source, Broadus Foods
