Tesla has announced support for the Ultra Wideband chip in the iPhone for the Phone Key feature. This integration, available in the Tesla update 2024.2.3, enhances the communication between the iPhone and Tesla vehicles equipped with UWB technology. Users can upgrade their Phone Key from Bluetooth to UWB in the Tesla app. The UWB technology enables more accurate communication for locking, unlocking, and emergency door operations between the car and the Phone Key. This feature is currently available for iPhone 11 or newer models with the Tesla app version 4.29.5+. However, the Tesla vehicle must also have Ultra Wideband technology built in. The UWB support is currently available for the Model 3, 2023 Model X, and Cybertruck. The Phone Key upgrade feature is not available for the previous generation Model 3 and the current generation Model Y. It is important to note that this feature is limited to iPhone users, despite some Android phones having UWB technology. This update from Tesla is viewed as a positive, enhancing the overall iPhone user experience. Although Tesla has added UWB support, it does not currently support Apple’s car key in Apple Wallet.
