# Maryland lottery awards $5 million to 50 Years scratch-off game winner

Maryland man, Troy Deneau from Eastern Shore, has won $5 million from the scratch-off game celebrating Maryland Lottery’s 50th anniversary, as reported by the Maryland Lottery. Deneau, the owner of a fire-protection company, expressed his gratitude for winning the $5 million prize. He has been playing the 50 Years instant game since it was launched in February 2023 and had won various amounts on different 50 Years instant tickets before hitting the $5 million jackpot.

On Feb. 1, Deneau bought three 50 Years instant tickets and won $75 on the first scratch-off, nothing on the second, but struck luck on the third and won the game’s top prize of $5 million. Deneau and his wife Rachel claimed the $5 million prize on Feb. 5 at the Maryland Lottery headquarters, and despite his win, he has decided to continue working at his company.

The 50 Years scratch-off game was released on Feb. 20, 2023, as part of the Maryland Lottery’s 50th-anniversary celebration. The game offered three $5 million top prizes, and Deneau became the second winner of the $5 million prize from this game.

The Maryland Lottery and Gaming Director, John Martin, stated that “Our 50th anniversary is a great time to look back at where we’ve been, but we’re also looking forward,” when the game was released in a press release.

The probability of winning any prize in the game is 1 in 2.44. The game has one $5 million top prize, one unclaimed $100,000 prize, two $50,000 prizes, and 18 $10,000 prizes, along with additional prizes ranging from $50 to $1,000.

Tickets for the Maryland Lottery can be purchased in person at gas stations, convenience stores, grocery stores, and some airport terminals. Additionally, lottery tickets can be ordered online through the official digital lottery courier, Jackpocket, in several U.S. states and territories.
