During its “Wonderlust” event where it unveiled the iPhone 15 and Apple Watch Series 9, Apple announced the launch of a satellite-based road assistance service. This new service builds upon the Emergency SOS via Satellite feature introduced last year with the iPhone 14, as explained by Deniz Teoman, vice president of hardware engineering at Apple. It is designed to provide assistance when you encounter car trouble in areas with no cell signal or Wi-Fi access. Roadside assistance is covered under AAA membership but can also be availed separately by non-members.

To seek roadside assistance, users can send a text message and select the type of help needed. Apple showcased an iPhone screen with options like “closed,” “no oil or charge,” and “flat tire” during the event.

“The intelligent interface will guide you to establish a connection with the satellite and share relevant information with the roadside assistance service,” explained Teoman. “They will directly message you and dispatch the necessary support to your precise location with the appropriate equipment to get you back on track.”
