Boosting Morale at Meta after Layoffs
At the company’s Menlo Park, California, headquarters, most restaurants have reopened after their pandemic closures. Dinnertime, which used to be later in the evening, has been moved up to 6 p.m., employees said.

Employees at Meta Platforms Inc are experiencing a morale boost after facing layoffs. The company has reintroduced several popular perks that were available before the pandemic, such as branded T-shirts and happy hours.

During the past year, employees were concerned about their job security due to ongoing cuts. This led to a decline in productivity as employees were unsure about their tasks. Surviving employees also felt saddened by the loss of their colleagues and the reduction in perks that made work enjoyable, according to current and former workers.

Now, Meta is bringing back its branded T-shirts, indicating a positive outlook after performing well in terms of profits and revenue. The company has also rehired some employees who were previously laid off. Furthermore, at the company’s Menlo Park, California, headquarters, restaurants have reopened and additional services such as laundry and haircuts have resumed. Happy hours and food stands have also been introduced, making it more appealing for employees to come to the office, which is now required three days a week.

A spokesperson for Meta confirmed the return of these amenities as employees return to the office. However, some perks are not as good as they were before the layoffs, according to employees. For example, the laundry service now incurs a fee and the quality of food has reportedly declined. Additionally, certain roles are still being cut or left unfilled when employees leave.

Despite these challenges, morale at Meta has improved, as evident from the positive mood among employees. The company’s stock performance has also been strong, doubling in value this year. However, Meta still faces issues such as stagnant user and revenue growth on its social networks, resource drain from virtual reality efforts, and the high cost of artificial intelligence development.

While Meta employees are enjoying the revival of certain perks, there is a fear that another large layoff could negatively impact morale. For now, employees are appreciating the positive changes and looking forward to a more enjoyable work environment at Meta.
