‘Lego Batman’ producer today. Treasury secretary tomorrow?

Steven Mnuchin had a pretty good weekend.

First, the nominee for the position of treasury secretary moved a step closer to confirmation on Friday.

Additionally, his latest movie, “The Lego Batman Movie,” took the top spot at the box office.

Mnuchin is one of the executive producers of Warner Bros.’ “The Lego Batman Movie,” which earned approximately $55.6 million from audiences in the United States during its opening weekend.

CNN, like Warner Bros., is owned by Time Warner.

This family-friendly spinoff of 2014’s “The Lego Movie” easily surpassed its more explicit competitor, Universal’s “Fifty Shades Darker.”

The sequel to 2015’s “Fifty Shades of Grey,” based on a popular series of romance novels, made its debut with $46.8 million in the United States.

Mnuchin has been credited as a producer or executive producer for 34 films in recent years, including last summer’s “Suicide Squad,” which generated $786 million worldwide.

He is also involved in the production of “The Lego Ninjago Movie,” another installment in the Lego franchise, scheduled for release this fall.

Mnuchin is widely expected to assume the position of Treasury secretary by that time.

After a 53-46 vote on Friday to end a Democratic filibuster, Mnuchin is set for a final vote before the full Senate at 7 p.m. Monday.
