The section of Archer-Daniels-Midland Co. that is currently being investigated for its accounting practices only accounts for less than 10% of the company’s revenue. Despite this, it has significantly impacted the bonuses of top executives. In 2020 and 2021, ADM’s board linked a large portion of senior executives’ stock award payouts to the profitability growth of its nutrition unit. The company exceeded the set goals for the first round of awards, resulting in executives receiving shares valued at over $70 million. The payouts for the second round of awards were scheduled to be decided early this year.
