Amazon has agreed to pay a $25 million fine to settle federal charges that it kept information collected from children in violation of the Children’s Online Privacy Act. The company was accused of storing the voices of Alexa teenagers for a long time and used it for commercial purposes, such as training its algorithm to understand children, the regulators said. The law requires children under 13 to get parental consent before collecting their information and allows parents to delete their children’s information. Although Amazon agreed to settle the charges, it denied violating child protection laws.
