This week, Apple unveiled two new digital storage plans for iCloud Plus users: one with 6TB and one with 12TB. These plans will be available for purchase starting Monday, September 18, and will offer users the ability to significantly expand their storage capacity with Apple.
However, these plans come with a high price tag. For users in the US, the 6TB plan will cost $29.99 per month, while the 12TB plan will cost $59.99 per month. According to Apple, these plans are designed for users who have large photo and video libraries or use Family Sharing.

Knowing how much digital storage you need can be challenging. Each iCloud account comes with 5GB of free storage before additional space needs to be purchased on a monthly subscription basis. If you have a large collection of photos or videos stored on your Apple devices, you may have received warnings about running out of space and considering upgrading. Additionally, transferring files from Apple devices to another platform can be a cumbersome process to avoid.
The base iCloud Plus plan offers 50GB of storage, which is ten times the amount of free space available, for only 99 cents per month in the US. This plan is perfect for users who want a little extra storage or want to ensure they never run out of space. The next tier is a substantial jump to 200GB, with a monthly cost of $2.99. This plan is ideal for families who share storage under one Apple ID, as it provides more space.
The leap from the 200GB plan to the 2TB plan is significant. To put it into perspective, one terabyte is 1,000 gigabytes, so a 2TB system offers a considerable amount of storage. Currently priced at $9.99 per month, this plan is suitable for families or accounts with multiple users, especially those who frequently download videos.
We don’t yet know how the introduction of the 6TB and 12TB plans will affect the existing plans, including pricing. However, Apple’s intention with these new options is to further increase the storage capacity of iCloud, catering to users who work with large amounts of media files.
