Former President Donald Trump’s arraignment on Tuesday in a New York state court will not be broadcast by news outlets, as a judge has denied the media’s request. However, some photographers will be allowed to take pictures inside the courtroom before the proceedings start, as per Acting New York Supreme Court Judge Juan Merchan’s ruling. Although the event is open to the public, cameras are not typically allowed to broadcast from the courtroom. Five pool photographers will be permitted to take still photos before vacating the jury box upon court personnel’s request.
Trump’s lawyers urged the judge to dismiss the request for live cameras, and the Manhattan District Attorney’s office stated that it did not have a position. The media organizations that attempted to gain entry argued that “the gravity of this proceeding…and, consequently, the need for the broadest possible public access, cannot be overstated.”
Former President Trump arrived in Manhattan ahead of his arraignment, which follows last week’s grand jury indictment. Criminal charges handed down by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg against Trump will likely be unsealed during the arraignment on allegations stemming from his investigation into hush-money payments to women who accused Trump of extramarital affairs during his 2016 presidential campaign, which he denies. Trump denies all allegations and his legal team is preparing to fight against the charges.
