The city of Kyiv was shaken by the tragic deaths of three people, including a mother and her child, who were killed in an explosion on Thursday morning. The explosion occurred outside a children’s clinic that served as a shelter during air raids. The victims had been locked out of the shelter at the time of the explosion, which led to multiple investigations and four detentions. The incident has raised questions about the lack of access to shelters and the responsible parties for their upkeep. Meanwhile, Russian border towns have been evacuated due to Ukrainian shelling and incursions. Russian paramilitary groups have briefly held two villages in the Belgorod region, and anxiety in the region has been rising since then. Two women died after their car was hit by an artillery shell near the town of Shebekino. Although the situation is difficult, some groups claimed they only target security installations and not civilians. Many Ukrainian residents have been living in a weekslong routine, taking refuge in shelters because of recent aerial attacks. Despite the increasing danger, Ukraine has managed to partially intercept Russian ballistic missiles using Western-supplied weapons such as the Patriot missile.
