A multinational company’s Hong Kong office suffered a loss of HK$200 million after falling victim to scammers using deepfake technology in a video call. The sophisticated deepfake video meeting was so convincing that it led an employee to transfer $25 million to the scammers. A cybersecurity expert warns that this incident marks the advent of a new form of identity theft known as “identity hijacking.”
