Comparison of iPhone 15 Models: Base, Plus, Pro, and Pro Max
September 15, 2023

Apple has unveiled its iPhone 15 lineup, consisting of four models at its Wonderlust event. Alongside the new iPhones, Apple also introduced the Watch Series 9 and Watch Ultra 2. The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus are the base models, offering similar features. However, the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, which are a step above the base and Plus models, come with several differences that make the Pro Max stand out this year.

One notable feature available across the entire iPhone 15 lineup is Dynamic Island, a shape-shifting feature first introduced in the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. Additionally, all models now come with a USB-C port for charging. However, when it comes to design, camera, and more, each iPhone model has its own unique attributes.

Starting with the design, the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus are available in bright colors like pink, yellow, green, blue, and black. On the other hand, the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max now come in a titanium chassis and are available in black shades labeled natural titanium, blue titanium, white titanium, and black titanium.

Another difference is that Apple has replaced the switch on the Pro models with an “Action button.” This multitasking button allows users to perform various tasks, such as taking a photo or setting up a timer.

The inclusion of a USB-C port on the iPhone 15 lineup is due to the European Union mandate, which allows the iPhone to use charging cables compatible with Android phones and other electronics. Although all models use USB-C for charging, the data transfer speeds differ between the base and Pro models. Only the Pro models support USB 3, offering a speed of 10Gbps. However, users will need to purchase their own USB 3 cable since Apple only includes a USB 2 cable with each phone.

In terms of camera capabilities, the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus feature two cameras on the back, while the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max come with three. The standard lenses include a 48-megapixel wide-angle lens with telephoto capability and a 12-megapixel ultrawide lens. The Pro models also have a 12-megapixel telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom. Additionally, the Pro Max has a new telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom.

More from the Apple event

All iPhone 15 Pro models are capable of shooting spatial video, which is a 3D video that can be viewed on the upcoming Apple Vision Pro headset.

Similar to the iPhone 14 line, the iPhone 15 line is equipped with different processors depending on the model. The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus are powered by the A16 Bionic chip, which was first introduced on the iPhone 14 Pro. On the other hand, the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max feature the new A17 Pro chip, which Apple claims is optimized for photography and gaming.
