The Lunar Awakening event in Diablo 4 is almost here, and Blizzard is giving us a sneak peek at what to anticipate from the upcoming limited-time mode in its long-standing RPG series. With Diablo 4 Season 3 kicking off slowly and ARPG competitors Path of Exile and Last Epoch vying for attention, the new Diablo 4 event presents an opportunity for Blizzard to re-engage players – and the good news is that it has been very well received. The Diablo 4 Lunar Awakening event starts in a few days, introducing new seasonal rewards, exclusive Nightmare Dungeons offering bonus glyphs, and updated versions of Diablo 4’s shrines. Even though Diablo 4 has been recognized as one of the top RPGs of 2023, it’s fair to say that the third season of D4 has been challenging, but there are various reasons to return for Lunar Awakening. Shrines typically offer a short-term power boost when discovered, but as you progress in the game, some of them can become less impactful or not worth the time it takes to locate and utilize them. Conduit Shrine is likely the main offender; the ability to transform into a teleporting sphere of lethal force may sound appealing, but when you have the best Diablo 4 gear equipped and operational, it may overshadow the damage potential of the Conduit mode.
The exciting news is that all shrines have received substantial enhancements in the D4 Lunar Awakening Event. Upon unlocking these new totems, you receive a massive 50% bonus to kills (which can be further increased by other bonuses such as elixirs and your standing in the Diablo 4 world). Additionally, you’ll move 30% faster, gain a bonus from ritual history, and access unique features specific to different types of shrines. Moreover, when unlocked, giants will spawn near shrines, allowing you to capitalize on their effects. The improvements are so impressive that I would love to see some of the bonus effects incorporated into the base game after this event, and it seems players concur with this sentiment; one comment asks, “Is this too much to ask? for it to be valid after the event?” One thing that’s been confirmed; the Lethal Shrine now has a chance to cause panic among monsters and make them flee, which can be devastating as you mow down hordes. Additionally, a welcomed addition is the new Ancestor’s Favor shrine linking, which can be spotted in your Nightmare Dungeon screenshots. This will ensure that Lunar Sanctuary will spawn in dungeons, as well as providing a 10% glyph bonus, a very welcomed augmentation for those of us upgrading our Paragon decks. Any tokens accrued during the event will be retained afterward, so it’s advisable to stock up as much as possible.
Diablo 4 Lunar Shrine Yields Here are the new results from Diablo 4 Lunar Shrines that you will encounter during the Lunar Awakening event, scheduled to run from Tuesday, February 6 to Tuesday, February 20, 2024. Blast Wave: Each blast triggers a cluster explosion. Enhancements: Increased speed and the ability to refresh cooldowns. Tunnel: Summon multiple potent, mystifying spells. Greed: Opportunity to summon a valuable goblin. With 25 kills, one spawns, and with 50 kills, another. Lethal: Chance to instantly kill a monster, causing surrounding monsters to panic.
