Billboard is known for its comprehensive music charts that cover various genres like Christian, country, rap, and reggae. Now, in collaboration with TikTok, Billboard has introduced the TikTok Billboard Top 50 chart. This new weekly chart keeps track of the most popular songs on TikTok in the US.
The TikTok Billboard Top 50 chart is the first of its kind and is released every Thursday. The rankings are based on a combination of creations, video views, and user experiences.
You can find the chart on Billboard.com or in the TikTok app by clicking on the circle icon in the bottom corner of your phone’s screen. When the screen changes, simply click on the Music Charts button located in the upper right corner.
Rapper Sexyy Red’s song “SkeeYee” claimed the top spot on the original TikTok Top 50 chart, followed by Doja Cat’s “Paint the Town Red.” Sexyy Red also had the last single in the Top 50, with “Mad at Me.”
In addition to the main chart, there is also a Viral 50 Tab. Similar to Spotify, this list tracks songs that are being shared the most, rather than just the most followed. Doja Cat’s “Paint the Town Red” led the Viral 50 chart (from its No. 2 position on the Top 50 chart), followed by Billie Eilish’s “What was I Made For?” from the Barbie movie.
TikTok boasts over 150 million users in the US alone, according to the company’s statement in March. However, the platform has faced restrictions in the US, with the state of Montana banning TikTok in May. Some American politicians have raised concerns about TikTok’s ties to China and the potential for user data to be shared with the Chinese government, citing national security reasons.
TikTok has vehemently denied these accusations and has a webpage dedicated to showcasing that around 60% of the company is owned by international investors. In June, TikTok also filed a lawsuit against Montana, arguing that the state’s ban violates the First Amendment.
