Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom will soon unveil its newest attraction this spring.
The TRON Lightcycle/Run rollercoaster is scheduled to open on April 4, 2023, near Space Mountain in Tomorrowland. This rollercoaster is modeled after the original TRON Lightcycle Power Run at Disneyland Shanghai.
“Prepare to enter the Grid. It’s almost your turn. Ready? TRON Lightcycle/Run opens at Magic Kingdom Park on 04/04/23,” Disney Parks Blog tweeted.
Just hours before the official announcement, Disney Parks Blog posted a video on Twitter with the TRON lightcycles spelling out the number four twice.
Disney Warns Parkgoers about Behavior amid Increasing Fights: ‘Be the Magic You Want to See’
Prior to the big revelation, Disney released cryptic videos on social media teasing the anticipated opening date of the coaster.
The first video, released on Monday, featured a video game scoreboard with the caption “Need a Clu?” – a reference to the character Clu played by Jeff Bridges in the TRON movies. The scores on the board seemed to represent significant dates related to Disney and the TRON franchise.
Disney Guests Stranded on ‘It’s a Small World’ Ride for Over an Hour: ‘Torture’
According to the Disney Parks Blog, the story of TRON Lightcycle/Run continues after the events of ‘TRON: Legacy,’ where Kevin’s son, Sam Flynn, opens a second gateway into the digital realm known as the Grid.
Once visitors enter the queue line, Disney promises a transporting experience that brings them into the Grid for a special Lightcycle race. Each person will ride their own Lightcycle, similar to a motorcycle, in a high-speed race through a semi-enclosed structure.
The official Walt Disney World website describes the ride as follows:
“Climb aboard your very own Lightcycle and embark on a high-speed adventure, competing against formidable Programs of the Grid. Zoom past your fierce rivals as you strive to pass through 8 Energy Gates and secure victory for your team—so you can live to race another day.”
This attraction will be one of the fastest roller coasters in any Disney theme park worldwide.
According to the blog, the initial preview of the TRON Lightcycle/Run will be exclusively for cast members, followed by preview opportunities for Annual Passholders and Disney Vacation Club Members.
