The well-known Dyson Supersonic hairdryer has undergone a significant change after its introduction in 2016. The brand introduced a new model with a completely different appearance at New York Fashion Week, surprising many of us. The new “Supersonic r” is a tube-shaped hairdryer that is smaller and lighter, weighing 325g (approximately 11.5 ounces) – about half the weight of the original Supersonic. This reduction in weight and size is mainly attributed to changes in the heating elements, allowing the team to replace the main head of the old design with a bend at the end of the shaft, hence the name “r”.
The low-temperature heating grills made of 99.9% copper microfins are attached to the edge of the pipe, ensuring that the high-speed air is heated evenly with maximum control through intelligent temperature control, preventing hot spots that can potentially damage hair. Additionally, Dyson Buttons for three precise types of airflow and four heat modes (including continuous shooting) are easily accessible. The air intake under the handle now includes a full-length filter, capturing air pollutants commonly found in hair salons.
The Supersonic r, priced at $570, is currently targeted at professionals.
