Monica and Isaiah Grant initially believed that the appearance of a small black bat in their Savannah, Georgia rental home was an isolated incident. However, this turned out to be just the beginning of a significant bat infestation that forced the family to eventually leave their residence. This initially stemmed from the sighting of a bat in their bedroom, which led to several more encounters in the following days. The situation escalated as the bats sought shelter from the dropping temperatures, appearing in various areas of the house, including the living room, stairwell, and even inside heating vents. The family was advised to undergo rabies treatment, and the Georgia Department of Health and Human Services deemed the house to be a public health risk due to the infestation.
The family reached out to the Property Management Co. LLC, but the response was deemed slow and inadequate. As the situation worsened, the Grants made the decision to leave their home and sought refuge in a hotel. The property was inspected, and it was revealed that the infestation was larger than anticipated. After persistent follow-up, the property management company took measures to address the issue by setting up glue traps and sealing entry points to prevent new bats from entering. The Grants are now seeking a new permanent residence and have started a GoFundMe campaign to cover medical bills and relocation expenses. Their campaign has received overwhelming support from their community and has allowed them to secure temporary housing while pursuing a long-term solution.
