Ferrari testing an American-made sedan is a surprising sight. New footage from outside the Prancing Horse’s Maranello factory shows workers from the Italian luxury car maker testing the Tesla Model S Plaid. Despite Ferrari’s focus on hybrid vehicles, with almost half of its sales being hybrids last year, its first all-electric model is not expected until 2025. The company may be considering the Tesla Model S Plaid to gather insights or to compare it against an upcoming PHEV system. Reportedly, Ferrari will introduce three new cars in 2024, one of which will be a plug-in hybrid twin-turbocharged V6 engine. The LaFerrari successor is expected to carry the same engine as the 296 GTB. The 812 Superfast may also see an update, likely with a naturally aspirated V12 engine. The hidden prototypes in the video provide a glimpse of Ferrari’s future plans. While focusing on hybrids, Ferrari is also exploring battery electric vehicles. Despite not being Tesla’s most popular model, the Model S Plaid’s more than 1,000 horsepower in its most luxurious configuration surpasses Ferrari’s current offerings.
