Screenshot: Square Enix After a decade-long wait, it was confirmed on February 2 that Final Fantasy XIV will finally be available on Xbox in 2024. The beta testing for the Xbox Series version will commence on February 21 and will be accessible to new MMO players. However, the beta test announcement also came with surprising information. Players interested in the Xbox version of the game will need to have a Game Pass subscription alongside the game’s regular subscription fee.The Best Reveals From The Game Awards 2023 This information can be found in the “How to participate” section of Square Enix’s blog. It states that while the Free Trial version of the game (including the beta) does not require a Game Pass subscription, “the full version of Xbox Series X | S will require an Xbox Game Pass plan (Core or Ultimate) to play.” This is a departure from the standard requirement for FF14, which only mandates a game subscription for play on PlayStation and PC. The subscription for FF14 costs $12.99 per month. Game Pass Core, the most affordable option, is priced at $9.99 per month, while Ultimate is available for $16.99 per month. This means that for those not on the FF14 Free Trial, a month of playing the MMO on Xbox will cost around $23. Prices may vary for players opting for long-term subscriptions to Game Pass or FF14. Xbox players who are curious about FF14 and haven’t yet explored Eorzea can try it for free by participating in the open beta test starting on Wednesday, February 21 at 3 am EST, before deciding if the game is worth the cost to play regularly.
