Red Bull’s Max Verstappen won his 10th race in a row last week, beating Sebastian Vettel’s record set in 2013. He will be looking to extend his record-breaking streak to 11 this weekend in the Singapore Grand Prix. His Red Bull team is still unbeaten in 2023, with Verstappen in first place in the Driver’s Championship and teammate Sergio “Checo” Perez second. Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso is third, while Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton is fourth. Verstappen is on track to win his third consecutive F1 race in Qatar on Oct. 8.

The Singapore Grand Prix will be held today at the Marina Bay Street Circuit in Singapore 7:55 a.m. ET (4:55 a.m. PT) on ESPN and ESPN Plus.

The entire race weekend, including practice and qualifying sessions, will be shown in the US on the ESPN TV network. Those looking to follow the game will need access to ABC, ESPN, ESPN 2 and ESPNews to catch every second of the action.

No single provider has fixed rights to a network, so there are many ways to get ESPN and watch sports without cable. We’ve covered everything you need to know to race today’s race, as well as all other F1 races this season.

What is F1 and how does it differ from IndyCar?

IndyCar and F1 are both open-wheel, single-seaters. This means that the cars can fit one person and have uncovered wheels that protrude from the body of the car. Although similar, F1 and IndyCar offer very different experiences.

In F1, there are only 10 teams, with two drivers for 20 drivers. Most races have to cover a distance of 305 kilometers, which is about 190 kilometers. Each driver has to use two types of tires in the race, so pit stops are important, although cars are not allowed to refuel. Tournaments are approximately two hours in length and are held in arenas around the world.

Teams spend hundreds of millions of dollars every year building their cars. All cars must have certain features — for example, the transmission must have eight gears including reverse and the end of six consecutive races — but teams have the option to modify other parts of their cars, including their engines, for racing purposes.

In contrast, the cars in IndyCar are standard. Both have similar aerodynamics and chassis and can be powered by one of two engines — either Honda or Chevrolet. That said, teams are allowed to make some of their own parts, such as dampers and other suspension parts.

IndyCar racing takes place on a variety of tracks, from fast ovals to street and road courses. The length of the races also varies, some, like the Indianapolis 500, cover 500 kilometers and take three hours to complete. It’s no surprise that refueling during pit stops is a big part of the process in IndyCar racing. Teams can run more than two cars, meaning the number of drivers in the team varies from team to team.

IndyCar is known as an American sport and does not have the same level of money and glamor associated with it compared to the F1 world circuit.

Why should I care about F1?

F1 racing can best be described as a full-on chess game that takes place as drivers zip around the track at close to 200 mph. Teams need talent and skill to compete against each other in motorsports.

F1 also has a strong personality. The Netflix documentary series F1: Drive to Survive follows many teams and drivers over the course of a year and has helped raise the profile of the sport in the US. Released in February, the fifth season of the series looks at the rise of Red Bull and Verstappen over the past year and its effect on other drivers. It also focuses on the battles between drivers of the same team, while giving viewers a glimpse into the sport of elite racing.

Does F1 stream on ESPN Plus?

ESPN does not broadcast any F1 content on its ESPN Plus streaming service. If you want to watch practices or races, you’ll need a different TV provider or pay for F1’s $80-per-season TV Pro subscription.

How to watch F1 online from anywhere using a VPN

If you find that you can’t watch the race locally, you may need another way to watch the race – that’s where using a VPN can come in handy. A VPN is also a great way to prevent your ISP from throttling your speed on race day by hiding your traffic, and it’s also a good idea if you’re traveling and find yourself connected to a Wi-Fi network and want to extend an additional password for your devices and logins.

With a VPN, you can change the location of your phone, tablet, or laptop to access the game. Many VPNs, such as Editors’ Choice, ExpressVPN, make this easy.

Using a VPN to watch or play games is legal in any country where VPNs are legal, including the US, UK, and Canada, as long as you have a valid subscription to the service you’re streaming. You need to make sure your VPN is set up properly to avoid leaks: Even where VPNs are legal, an advertising service can suspend the account of anyone it deems to be violating fair use rules.
