Google Admits Delay in Indexing Some Websites

Google Admits Delay in Indexing Some Websites
February 4, 2024

The most recent update, posted on February 3, states that Google is still working on resolving the issue and expects to have a solution by Monday. Google has acknowledged an ongoing problem with the search engine crawling which has resulted in slower indexing for “some” sites. The indexing problem started at around 11:30 pm ET on January 31, and since then, numerous web publishers and media organizations have reported delays in their new content being tracked and appearing in Google search results. Google has indicated that affected websites “may experience slower than normal indexing times.”

The company stated that they are working to determine the cause and updates will be available within 12 hours. They have yet to provide details on what is causing the problem and their engineering teams are investigating the issue in hopes of resolving it soon.

This confirmation from Google comes after numerous complaints from SEO experts and webmasters that their content was not being indexed. Common issues reported included not being able to see even basic signals such as impressions and clicks in Google Search Console. Publishers experiencing indexing delays should take comfort in the fact that they are not alone, although the delays have caused frustration for those who rely on timely listings to drive traffic and revenue from search engines.

The company reassured that the issue with indexing has been mitigated and their system is stable. However, they are still working on a fix, with further updates expected within 48 hours. An image shared by Google showed the status update on the indexing issue.
