The Google Pixel 8 and 8 Pro now feature the new Mint color option, adding to the existing lineup of these phones. Google frequently unveils new color variations of its phones prior to the release of a new model, as has been the case with previous models such as the Pixel 4a and Pixel 7a. In addition to the new color option, Google has also announced new apps for the Pixel 8, including features like Circle to Search and Photomojis. These phones were released in late last year and quickly gained popularity. The new Pixel phone, which is anticipated to be the budget version of the 8 series, may still be several months away from being launched. Meanwhile, to maintain interest, the company has unveiled a new Mint version of the current Pixel 8 and 8 Pro, following a teaser for a mid-range refresh last week. The introduction of the Mint color option was initially teased by Google in a cryptic tweet last week with the caption “New year, new drop.” It is not uncommon for Google to introduce new color options prior to the launch of a new model. For instance, the Pixel 4a’s Barely Blue color variation was added shortly after the initial release. Similarly, the Pixel 8 was introduced in Obsidian, Hazel, and Rose hues, while the 8 Pro was launched in Obsidian, Porcelain, and Bay shades. Now, Google has unveiled a new Mint option for both models (though only the Pro version was shown in the video accompanying the cryptic tweet). Despite being a new color, the pastel green may remind users of the Lemongrass color offered on the Pixel 7, but it is more green than the new Mint shade. In the official accessories selection, users may find the Mint color screen protector from Google already available for integration with their phone. Google also offers a Coral color which the similar Pixel 8 does not have – but it is likely that the red color seen on the Pixel 7a will eventually be offered, possibly on the Pixel 8a. Smartphone companies are increasingly adding mid-range color options like these to keep consumers interested in their devices, especially for those who prefer to wait a few months to see new color options rather than purchasing on launch day. Apple has also introduced new color variations between product launches, such as the Product Red range, the yellow iPhone 14, and the purple iPhone 12. Along with the new color variation of the 8 series, Google also announced the availability of several new features for the phone. For instance, the Pixel 8 Pro’s temperature sensor, though standard with the latest Pixel phones, was missing from day one, despite its appealing appearance. Circle to Search, which was introduced with the Samsung Galaxy S24 series earlier this month, will also be introduced, along with Photomojis and Magic Compose.
