Following the leaks of the Pixel 9 series, it appears that the Pixel Fold 2 will feature a significant rear camera bump, according to recently released images of Google’s next foldable phone prototype. Earlier this week, some of the initial details of Google’s second foldable phone began to surface. It is rumored that the Pixel Fold 2 will skip a processor generation and instead use the Tensor G4 chip, paired with 16 GB of RAM, a first for Pixel phones. A new report from Android Authority presents the first glimpse of what could potentially be this year’s Pixel Fold 2. The most intriguing detail shown is the rounded camera bump, departing from the Pixel Fold’s bar and emerging from the left corner. The design is reminiscent of the camera setup seen in the initial release of the Pixel 9 series. The cameras of the Pixel Fold 2 appear to be very similar to those in the earlier iteration, which have been revamped. Additionally, the temperature sensor found in the Pixel 8 Pro, expected to return with the Pixel 9 Pro, is still absent in Google’s second foldable device.

The original Pixel Fold sported a smaller, wider display between the folds. However, Google seems to be adopting a completely different approach, with a new and taller design that bears a striking resemblance to the OnePlus Open. The source from Android Authority indicates that it is “close to being large.” Another noticeable change is the hinge, which now appears similar to the one used by OnePlus, especially based on what we can discern from the image. Nevertheless, Google’s design features more rounded edges compared to OnePlus and Samsung, who both focus on multi-layer designs. As the device is said to be in the prototype stage, nothing can be confirmed. However, Google’s utilization of matte materials on the Pixel Fold 2’s hinge — in contrast to the glossy metal used in the initial Fold — assists in concealing the hinge when the phone is unfolded. Following the pattern of last year’s Pixel Fold release, many anticipate the launch of the Pixel Fold 2 in the summer, potentially being revealed at Google I/O 2024. The Pixel 9 roadmap suggests that the Pixel Fold 2 may debut as part of the fall Made by Google lineup. What are your thoughts on the new design of the Pixel Fold 2?
