Hamas has seemingly rejected a deal that would have led to the release of Israeli hostages and offered a four-month cease-fire to facilitate the development of a plan to put an end to the war, according to a new report.

Senior officials from the Palestinian terror group seemed to dismiss the peace proposal that was negotiated in Paris by stating they want a “complete and comprehensive cease-fire” before agreeing to anything else, as reported by the Times of Israel.

This decision came after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office described the recent talks between international mediators and the terrorists as “constructive” just a day before.

Representatives from the US, including CIA director William J. Burns, Israel, and Egypt met with the prime minister of Qatar over the weekend to discuss their latest peace proposal, which called for a four-month cease-fire, as revealed by the Wall Street Journal.

As per the proposal, in the first six weeks of the cease-fire, women and children hostages, as well as the elderly, would have been released from Hamas in exchange for Israel releasing Palestinian prisoners and allowing aid into Gaza, as mentioned by the Journal.

The deal also included assurances for Hamas that the US and other international leaders would negotiate a deal during the four months to bring an end to the war, the Journal reported.

In the weeks following Hamas’ attack on Israel on October 7, which resulted in the death of 1,200 people and the capture of 240 hostages, Israeli leaders made a commitment to not cease their efforts until the terror group was completely eradicated.

According to Israeli officials, the nation remained “fully committed to the release of all hostages and to destroying Hamas” and would “continue to do whatever possible to ensure the release of all hostages.”

The current plan was the latest in a series of cease-fire and peace proposals offered since the conflict began.

A successful cease-fire was secured for a week back in November, resulting in the release of over 100 Israeli hostages and 240 Palestinian prisoners before hostilities resumed.
