# Here’s an early look at multiple Wear OS design changes coming to Pixel Watch 2

Google is planning to bring powerful support for Material You to Wear OS 4, the latest version of the smartwatch operating system. The app drawer is also set to undergo a new three-line layout, with an “Apps” heading in the grid view and buttons to switch between the new grid view and the old list view. These changes were noted after updating the Pixel Watch 2 to the latest February 2024 release.

Introduced with Android 12 in 2021, Material You design language has not been available on all Android platforms. Wear OS, Google’s operating system for smartwatches, has not had its own UI or apps based on the existing watch face. However, as the latest version of Wear OS is based on Android 13, the platform should support dynamic themes, with hints suggesting the introduction of Material You support in Wear OS 4.

The biggest change expected for Pixel watches is the app grid, as seen on the app drawer in the Pixel Watch 2, which now displays installed apps in a grid view. The app drawer’s list view is a straightforward, one-stop view of all installed apps, though it may require some time to find a specific app in the list. The new grid view does not display app names but can be switched back to list view through the settings. Although not available by default, the grid view can be manually activated and is expected to be released soon.

Material You theme-based support is also set to be incorporated, with a “face & style” menu that contains a shortcut to change the watch face or system theme. Users can choose from preset themes, matching the watch face or a chosen theme.

This support for Material You is expected to become part of the Wear OS platform and be available in the March 2024 Pixel Feature Drop. It will likely be accessible on other smartwatches that have been upgraded to the Wear OS 4 operating system published by Google. The Wear OS launcher, expected to be customized by OEMs, will be available for the Pixel Watch family. While the Pixel Watch missed out on the app drawer UI, allowing for a grid view app launcher, other smartwatches like those from Samsung already offer this feature.

These updates are significant for Wear OS and the Pixel Watch, and users are encouraged to stay tuned for further details. For any additional information, users can reach out to the staff at news@androidauthority.com, with the option to remain anonymous or receive credit for the information.
