Apple has just released the new iOS 17, making using the iPhone fun again. This update brings a multitude of new features, including some that enhance privacy and security. It is highly recommended to download the latest update to keep your iPhone or iPad as secure as possible.

iOS 17 enhances various aspects of iPhone interaction. One notable change is that instead of saying “Hey Siri,” you can now use a simple “Siri” command. Additionally, you can follow a Siri command without having to say “Siri” again.

Once you finish downloading and installing iOS 17, these are the top things you should know:

Update your iPhone to iOS 17 without delay

  • Go to “Favorites”.
  • Scroll down and tap on “General”.
  • Tap on “Software Update”.
  • If you see the notification that iOS 17 is available, tap on “Download and install” or “Apply Now”.
  • You may need to enter your own password and agree to the terms and conditions.
  • The download and installation may take some time depending on your internet connection.
  • Once the update is complete, you’ll see a welcome screen and some suggestions on how to take advantage of the new iOS 17 features.

Set up a “contact poster”

Apple now allows you to customize the screen that is visible to others when you call, text, or FaceTime them.

  • Open the “Contacts” app.
  • Select your own name or contact card.
  • Under the communication buttons, tap on “Edit Photo”.
  • Confirm that you want to share your name and photo with your friends by tapping on the blue “Continue” button.
  • Enter your name as you want it to appear to others.
  • To set your photo, you can take a selfie using the iPhone camera or choose a well-thought-out image. You can also add a Memoji or a less personal monogram if you prefer.
  • If you choose a selfie, you can swipe between styles to see different filters and effects. Once you’re satisfied with your photo, tap on the blue “+” symbol.

Turn on the setting to automatically remove two-factor codes

Apple has introduced a new feature that removes multiple two-factor codes sent via messages or email to verify your identity. It is recommended to enable this option to keep your device clean and secure.

  • Go to “Favorites”.
  • Scroll down and tap on “Passwords”.
  • Tap on “Privacy & Security”.
  • Enable the “Auto Clean” option to automatically delete two-factor codes.

New voicemail feature for incoming calls

When someone calls and is sent to voicemail, their voice message will appear on your screen as soon as they start leaving the message. You have the option to intercept their message and accept the incoming call.

New ringtones

You can now choose from 25 new and trendy ringtones to personalize your iPhone. Simply go to “Sounds & Haptics” in the Settings app and select “Ringtones” to find the new options.

Check in to alert your contacts when you arrive

You can now use the Messaging app to let your contacts know when you have arrived at a specific location. To do this, go to the Messaging app, select a person you want to share your location with, tap on the “+” symbol next to the text input field, and choose “Check In” to inform your friend that you have arrived.

Leave a voicemail message on FaceTime

With the new update, you can now leave a voicemail message on FaceTime for someone who doesn’t answer or rejects your call. The recipient can watch your video message and respond with a quick message or return the video call.

FaceTime calls on Apple TV 4K

If you have an Apple TV 4K, you can now use it to display your FaceTime calls on the big screen while using your iPhone as the camera. This allows for a better viewing experience and a refreshing change of scenery.

Create your own stickers with Live Sticker

The Photos app now allows you to create your own stickers. Simply select an object in each image, tap on “Add Sticker” when it appears, and your new sticker will be saved in the sticker folder for use in messages or emails.

Share information by tapping iPhones together

Using a feature called Name Drop, you can easily share your contact information with someone by simply tapping the top edge of your iPhone to the top edge of their iPhone. This feature allows for quick and convenient sharing without the need for menus or buttons.

Share an AirTag with someone else

You can now share an AirTag with someone else who also has iOS 17. This allows both parties to see the location of the AirTag, providing a convenient way to keep track of belongings or pets.
