Honda recalls 750,000 vehicles due to airbag issue

February 6, 2024

Honda has announced a recall of over 750,000 vehicles because of a potentially dangerous problem with the airbag system, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). This action was taken after federal safety regulators discovered that the airbags in certain Honda vehicles may deploy unintentionally in the event of a crash. The NHTSA stated in the February 5 recall that there is a risk of the front passenger seat weight sensor cracking and short circuiting, which could result in the airbag not deploying as intended. The recall affects 16 Honda and Acura models, and as of January 19, no injuries or deaths related to the issue have been reported by Honda. The models affected by the recall are the 2020-2022 Pilot, Accord, Civic sedan, HR-V, Odyssey, Civic coupe, Fit, Civic hatchback, Civic Type R, Insight, CR-V, CR-V Hybrid, Passport, Ridgeline, Accord Hybrid, Acura MDX, Acura RDX, and Acura TLX. Owners will be notified by March 18, and dealers will replace the seat weight sensors free of charge. Owners can contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138, and individuals who have already paid for repairs related to this issue may be eligible for reimbursement. Further information can be obtained by contacting the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 or visiting www.nhtsa.gov.
