Apple has made iOS 17.0.1 available to the public, just days after releasing iOS 17 and a day before the launch of the iPhone 15. The update addresses three security vulnerabilities that could be exploited easily, making it important for users to download it immediately.
To download this update, go to Settings > General > Software Update on your iPhone and follow the onscreen instructions.
If you are an iOS developer or beta tester, you need to disable beta access to update your device. Go to Settings > General > Software Updates > Beta Updates and toggle the switch to “Turn Off”.
Apple has identified a vulnerability in WebKit, the engine responsible for powering Safari and other third-party browsers on iOS. This vulnerability could lead to data theft or unauthorized access to your device, according to IT Services company Okta.
Another vulnerability exists in the iOS kernel, which is the core of your iPhone’s operating system. Apple has stated that this security flaw could allow an attacker to gain access to the code information stored on the device. The third flaw could potentially enable an attacker to bypass signature verification.
