iOS 17: Create Live Stickers to Send in Messages

iOS 17: Create Live Stickers to Send in Messages
September 18, 2023

Apple’s iOS 17 is finally here. This new update follows the recent announcements of the iPhone 15, Apple Watch Series 9, and Apple Watch Ultra 2 at the “Wonderlust” event. iOS 17 introduces various changes, including StandBy mode, but one of the most exciting features is the ability to turn your photos and live images into Live Stickers for Messages.

Live Stickers is an update to the tap-and-lift feature introduced in iOS 16. This feature allows you to crop the background of photos and live photos. With the new Live Stickers feature, you can add effects to your cropped images and save them as attachments in the Messages app.

Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to create Live Stickers in iOS 17:

How to make Live Stickers in iOS 17

1. Open the Messages app on your iPhone.
2. Sign in to a conversation and tap the plus sign (+) next to the text field.
3. Tap Stickers.
4. Tap the folded circle near the top right corner of the Stickers app.
5. Tap the big plus sign (+). This will open your Photos.
6. Select the photo or image you want to turn into a sticker. Your iPhone will automatically remove the background of the photo.
7. If you’re satisfied with the stickers, tap Add a Sticker in the upper right corner of your screen.

Your Live Sticker will be automatically added to the Stickers app in Messages. You’ll be given options to Do it again, Add Results, or Remove it from the Stickers app. Tapping Add Results will apply modifications to your sticker, like a white outline to give it a sticker-like appearance.

According to Apple, you can use your new Live Sticker anywhere you can find emojis, including other apps and Apple devices that don’t have iOS 17. However, in my testing, I found that Live Stickers didn’t work properly in the messaging app Slack, as my sticker had a white background. So, there might be compatibility issues when using Live Stickers outside of Apple apps and devices.
