I’ve never used a folding phone like this one before | Digital Trends

Prakhar Khanna / Digital Trends Honor took its time to bring the Magic V2 to China. For amazing tools, it’s been a long wait. I’ve had a test unit since July 2023, which didn’t have the software and cameras ready until earlier this month. After using it as my main device for a few weeks, I can confidently say that the Honor Magic V2 is the best foldable phone I’ve used so far. Perfectly bridging the gap between a fixed and a curved phone

It started with the Galaxy Z Fold, which looks like holding two candies fixed together. The Honor Magic V2 solves this problem with a slimmer, lighter, and better design than before. Starting with the thickness, at 10.1mm, the Magic V2 brings the appearance of a foldable phone closer to a smartphone than ever before. The Ultimate variant with a vegan leather back is very thin at 9.9mm. Secondly, the Magic V2 weighs 237 grams, which is eight grams lighter than the foldable smartphone, OnePlus Open. Magic V2 is among these. Unlike other foldables, the Honor Magic V2 is not a large screen that folds to give you a phone-like appearance. Instead, it feels like a regular phone that opens up to give you a bigger screen. And that is an amazing task to accomplish.

On flagship phones like the Galaxy S24 Ultra or the iPhone 15 Pro Max, you’ll find an aspect ratio closer to 20:9. This is important because it prevents apps from misbehaving, and they load like they do on a smartphone. Using Honor’s new foldable in everyday life doesn’t feel like using two phones that have been beaten into one. As a result, holding it for browsing, doomscroll on social media, and reading is better than other articles. Also, it doesn’t feel bad when I carry it in my pocket because it fits in my shorts like a regular phone.

Shaving millimeters and grams from home does wonders. The Honor Magic V2 has a 6.43-inch screen and a 7.92-inch screen inside. Both are OLED panels that offer a 120Hz refresh rate and support the Honor Magic Pen stylus. The Honor Magic V2 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, which may look old on paper but it’s still capable. It is paired with 16GB of RAM and 256GB or 512GB of storage. The Honor Magic V2 is now available in Purple and Black colors for 1,700 British pounds/1,999 euros in Europe (without advertising). It’s a great price when you consider the Galaxy Z Fold 5 selling for 1,899 Euros and the OnePlus Open costing 1,799 Euros.
