Japan has issued a tsunami advisory for the islands off the Izu Peninsula on the eastern coast of the country. The advisory comes following an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.6 near Torishima island, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency. The earthquake struck at 11 a.m. and had its epicenter in the Pacific Ocean about 550 km (340 miles) south of Tokyo.
The Japan Meteorological Agency issued a tsunami advisory for a potential wave height of 1 meter in the affected areas. Residents and tourists in the region are advised to be cautious and follow the instructions provided by the local authorities. Tsunamis can cause significant damage and pose a threat to human life and property.
