Kim Cattrall, who played the role of Samantha in the original “Sex and the City” series, will make a guest appearance in one episode of its revival, “And Just Like That,” which was confirmed by the streaming giant Max on Thursday. This news comes as a pleasant surprise to fans who were disappointed by Cattrall’s absence from the new series. The reboot follows the other three lead characters, played by Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, and Kristin Davis, as they navigate life in their mid-50s, dealing with both personal and professional issues.
Cattrall declined to appear in the third “Sex and the City” movie and rumors of a feud between her and Parker had been circulating for years. Variety reported that Cattrall’s comeback will be in the form of a phone conversation with Parker’s character, Carrie Bradshaw, and that the scene was filmed separately from the rest of the cast.
Since the end of “Sex and the City,” Cattrall has appeared in other TV series, including “Filthy Rich” and “How I Met Your Father.” Last year, she explained to Variety that she chose not to be a part of the franchise revival because she did not want to compromise her vision of the show. She stated, “It’s a great wisdom to know when enough is enough.”
In the new series, Samantha’s absence is described as due to her job in London, and viewers have only seen her contact Carrie via text message with some lewd humor.
