Kraft Heinz has recalled almost 84,000 cases of Kraft Singles cheese slices following reports of a choking hazard from multiple customers.
The company stated in a press release that it received complaints of plastic film sticking to the cheese after consumers removed the wrapper. Six customers reported choking or gagging due to the plastic.
No injuries or health issues have been reported.
Kraft Heinz discovered a manufacturing error in a wrapping machine used for the cheese slices. This caused a thin strip of plastic film to remain on the cheese even after the packaging was removed. The company has fixed the error and conducted inspections on other machines to ensure the issue is resolved.
Kraft Heinz is advising customers who have purchased affected products to not consume them and to return the cheese slices to the store of purchase.
The recalled products are the 16 oz. Kraft Singles American Pasteurized Prepared Cheese Product with an individual package UPC code of “0 2100061526 1” and a “Best When Used By” date between Jan. 10, 2024, and Jan. 27, 2024. Packages included in the recall will have an “S” and “72” in the manufacturing code.
Kraft Heinz is not the only major company to report a manufacturing error this year.
Trader Joe’s reported its own issue in July when its Almond Windmill Cookies and Dark Chocolate Chunk and Almond Cookies were found to potentially contain rocks.
“If you purchased or received any donations of Almond Windmill Cookies and/or Dark Chocolate Chunk and Almond Cookies, please do not eat them,” stated the company at the time.
