AUSTIN (KXAN) — As you prepare your snacks and dinner for the Super Bowl weekend, certain food items have been connected to a lethal listeria outbreak, according to Texas Health and Human Services.
The agency reported that two people, including one from Texas, have died, and over two dozen people have fallen ill.
“Listeria is a bacterium that can cause serious infection, especially in pregnant women and individuals over 65 or with a compromised immune system,” THHSC stated on its website.
The recalled products include sauces, salad dressings, meal kits, and other items sold at H-E-B, Walmart, Trader Joe’s, and other stores in Texas, according to the agency.
The initial warning issued by Texas health officials this week includes queso fresco and cotija cheese from Rizo Lopez Foods Inc. and more, as per the FDA website.
