A 29-year-old chef from Michigan passed away last week after fighting a rare fungal illness that severely affected his lungs.
Ian Pritchard fell ill with blastomycosis, a fungal disease, sometime before Thanksgiving, which attacked and damaged his respiratory system.
His father, Ron Pritchard, revealed to UpNorthLive in December that, “They showed us a picture of his lungs, and they literally looked like Swiss cheese.”
According to a GoFundMe page that raised nearly $20,000 for his family, Pritchard was taken off life support at a Detroit hospital on Saturday.
“The Blastomycosis fungal infection ravaged Ian’s lungs beyond repair,” the page stated.
