Microsoft has introduced a set of guidelines calling for the regulation of artificial intelligence (AI) to tackle concerns surrounding the technology. The new rules suggest that AI features should be capable of being turned off or reduced in emergency situations, such as on a train. The company has also called for legal clarification around the rules that apply to AI systems, and the introduction of documents that would clarify when a photo or video has been computer generated. Microsoft President Brad Smith stated that “companies need to step up” and “the government must move quickly” in introducing regulations. The company has also recommended the introduction of licenses for companies testing AI models, as well as unique labels for AI-generated content to protect consumers from fraud.
